Judges Panel
Tshepo Matseba
Tshepo Matseba is the Head of Brand and Reputation at a South African financial services brand.
He is the former Corporate Reputation Strategist at M&C Saatchi Abel. Matseba is the former President of the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA).
He hold a number of roles including Chairman at Reputation 1st, a boutique strategic communication and reputation management consultancy. In addition, he is the Business Editor of The Afropolitan magazine and Editor in Chief of The Official NEPAD Yearbook. He was the Head of Marketing and Communication at Liberty Corporate.
Matseba has over 16 years expertise across marketing communicatios, he served in a range os industries including higher education, financial services, telecommunications, and information communication (ICT) in Africa and the Middle East for a number of brands including Discovery, Huawei, Momentum, MTN and UNISA’s Graduate School of Business Leadership.
He holds the APR status, which is internationally recognised in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia through the Global Alliance of Public Relations and Communication Management Associations (GA).
Matseba is the chairman of the judging panel for the Brand Summit and Awards South Africa and a regular speaker at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Silvana Dantu
Silvana Dantu is a marketing and communications professional that has been delivering strategic and impactful solutions to clients from the private sector, trade unions through to government and civil society for more than two decades.
Her career began as the Research Editor for a prestigious global magazine, followed by head of Media and Communication for the first Robben Island Museum management team. She has lead hallmark projects, developing multi-layered strategies and concepts from campaigns to promote African fashion design, to managing media for the FIFA 2010 World Cup and convening the 4000-strong gathering of the World Courts of Women Against War for Peace.
She always combines research with a passion for art, innovation and social benefit and her branding and marketing campaigns have been implemented throughout Africa, Europe and North America. She co-owns African Equations (AE), originally a Tourism Development Agency; AE has interrupted the local beverage market as independent producer, of a unique, premium, alcohol-free drink that is being exported to almost 20 countries around the world. Silvana has previously served on the boards of Jazzart, the Mother Tongue Theatre Project as well as the Gold of Africa Museum and currently continues to support various organisations operating in the gender and arts environment.
Mia Azam
Mia Azam is a Senior Communication Manager at Woolworths Financial Services.
With over 12 years’ experience, he takes an innovative and forward thinking approach to managing enterprise-wide communication and engagement, which has earned him International and African Gold Quill Awards from the IABC (International Association of Business Communicators). He recently formed part of a core group, which launched Facebook at Work (now called Workplace by Facebook) – a first in Africa, where WFS was one of 450 global companies selected for Facebook’s early adopter programme.
Passionate about driving the Communication industry forward, he served on the IABC’s Blue Ribbon Evaluation Panel for the 2017 International Gold Quill Awards Programme and the MACE (Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education) Excellence Award Panel.
Mia holds a BCom Honours degree from WITS University.
John Binns
John Binns is a seasoned marketing and management consultant with a focus on the business-to-business sector having over 30 years experience in various operations within South Africa and he has worked extensively throughout Africa.
John has been a registered Chartered Marketer since 1999 and has sat on the Board of the Chartered Marketers for two terms during this period. He is an advocate for the ethical and transparent recognition of marketers within the business environment and maintains the networking mantle for the Western Cape chapter of the Chartered Marketers and Marketing Association of South Africa.
Previously he managed the sales team for a large corporate and developed the business through in-depth research and action plans. He conducted research for a JSE-listed company to enter the Angolan market in 2003; and has had much success securing contracts in Ghana, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa for various clients.
John is an accomplished public speaker and lecturer, having lectured at various tertiary education centres and he facilitates training workshops for businesses on a regular basis. John continues to mentor rising professionals in the financial services; retail marketing; medical & cosmetics; events; B2B-marketing; clothing; and engineering sectors.
